Sculpture/Installation

“i spy with my little eye…” (2023)

4’ x 3’ x 1’

Found objects, spray paint and glue.

This project focuses on the ambiguity of objects and how much information can be taken away or skewed while still being recognized. The congestion and culmination of objects references a page of an “I Spy” book, but without the list of items to search for. The orientation of the frame forces viewers to be faced with objects in a way they never have before, moving around the composition and changing their own orientation to get a deeper grasp of what is in front of them.

Audiences are encouraged to find a piece of themselves in the work, finding some objects right off the bat, while others take more searching and pondering. Viewers are transported back to times in their childhood, viewing the world for the first time while looking at familiar objects in way they never have before.
